Marginal zone (MZ) B cells comprise a subset of innate-like B cells found predominantly in the spleen, but also in lymph nodes and blood. Their principal functions are participation in quick responses to blood-borne pathogens and secretion of natural antibodies. Marginal zone B-cell lymphomas, also known as marginal zone lymphomas (MZLs), are a heterogeneous group of lymphomas that derive from the malignant transformation of marginal zone B-cells. Marginal zone B cells are innate lymphoid cells that normally function by rapidly mounting IgM antibody immune responses to antigens such as those presented by infectious agents and damaged tissues. Studies on an 'old', but poorly characterized, B-cell subset — the naive, marginal-zone (MZ) B-cell subset — over the past two years have spawned an avalanche of data that encompass the generation Marginal zone (MZ) B cells comprise a subset of innate-like B cells found predominantly in the spleen, but also in lymph nodes and blood.

The average age at diagnosis is 60 years, and it is slightly more common in women than in men. However, a number of converging observations revealed that two B-cell subsets, marginal zone (MZ) and B1 cells, exhibit unique developmental and functional characteristics, and can contribute to Nodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma: This is a rare disease. It starts and usually stays in the lymph nodes, although lymphoma cells can also sometimes be found in the bone marrow. This lymphoma tends to be slow-growing (although not usually as slow as MALT lymphoma), and is treated similarly to follicular lymphoma.

Of note, skin cancer, T cells in the marginal zones of the tumor (Figure 7A). Furthermore,. Lack of non-hematopoietic SIRPα signaling disturbs the splenic marginal zone architecture resulting in accumulation and displacement of marginal zone B cells.

Marginal Zone and Follicular B-2 Cells 2011-12-13 · B lymphocytes were initially thought to only play a role in the adaptive branch of immunity. However, a number of converging observations revealed that two B-cell subsets, marginal zone (MZ) and B1 cells, exhibit unique developmental and functional characteristics, and can contribute to innate immune responses. 2005-04-15 · Marginal zone (MZ) B cells and peritoneal B-1 cells provide a first defense system of thymus-independent Ab responses against foreign pathogens and therefore share a number of functional properties.

Marginal zone B cells are naturally reactive to collagen type II

In three‐color staining of C57BL/6 splenocytes, two B cell populations were gated as indicated (MZ = marginal zone B cells, M = mainly mature B cells) and the staining with NeuGcα2,6Gal–SAAP is shown in histograms. The splenic marginal zone (SMZ) is a unique B-cell compartment that contains B cells with a high surface density of IgM and complement receptor 2 (Cr2 or CD21), and which exhibits a rapid activation and immunoglobulin secretion in response to blood-borne T-independent (TI) antigens. 5-7 Human SMZ B cells have been shown to carry somatic mutations, and mutated antibodies can be raised after Appelgren, D, Eriksson, P, Ernerudh, J & Segelmark, M 2018, ' Marginal-Zone B-Cells are main producers of IgM in humans, and are reduced in patients with autoimmune vasculitis ', Frontiers in Immunology, vol. 9, nr.
